I'm officially a grown up!

This photo was taken two days ago – 9th December 2016. It was a special day. I mean, aside from the fact that the marketing team finished off at 3pm to spend the rest of the day at the Royal Botanic Gardens for bubbly, beer, food and kris kringle – that was special enough in itself. It was a little more than just our Christmas picnic for me. I was silently celebrating a win of my own.

Friday marked my very last assignment submission for uni .. ever, AND the official announcement of accepting the job offer at Randstad Australia as a permanent, full-time employee. Step aside everyone, hot shot coming through*. It honestly could not have been timed any better. Now, I’m going to admit, I haven’t been completely honest with you guys. Remember that post a while ago, earlier this year, when I shared my struggle with transitioning back to life in Sydney after returning from Spain? If not, and if you’re bothered (I won’t be offended if you’re not btw), click here to read all about it. Anyway, at the time, I was on cloud 9 about finally moving on with my life and finding my groove, but truth be told, a few days after that post was written and published, the universe took a great big dump on my face. The day before I was supposed to start my exciting new internship, I received a call that I in fact, no longer had an internship to start. Naturally, I overreact, break down unnecessarily about life as if this internship decided my fate, and wallowed in my self-pity. You know, the usual. It actually wasn’t until 3 months after this melodrama that I again bagged an internship and I am SO glad this is how it went.

Alright, let’s pull out all the clichés. When a door closes, a window opens. Except in my case, I was fortunate enough a great big double-wide door with the really fancy stained glass windows, and gold plated door knobs opened instead.  That’s the best way I can put it. This year has definitely been one hell of a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs, but particularly from the day I started my internship this rollercoaster has only been on a steady incline up, up and up.

I’m sure I can speak on behalf of a lot of final year students when I say, the thought of the year ending, your degree ending, and the reality of having to find a job is daunting enough. I was 100% going through the motions in the last month of my last semester. I was preparing for eventually having to leave the team I had grown to adore and delve out into the great big world of the working. It was just in these last few weeks that luck decided to take my side (for once).

I am so so so happy to be staying at Randstad and finally catching up to those of my friends who have already been adulting for a good two years. Guys, I can join the grown-ups club now! Me me me!

What a way to end the year.

– Gel, the adult

*I hope you all realise I’m taking the piss. I am a very humble human being, she said humbly.
